Printed alternately in a pulp, bedsheet and digest format and under variant titles, ASF was put out by Street & Smith from 1933-61, Condé Nast from 1962-80, Davis Publications from 1980-92, and, since 1992, by Dell Magazines.
The magazine of the 1930ΓÇÖs and 1940ΓÇÖs featured some of the periodΓÇÖs leading writers, including H.P. Lovecraft, Isaac Asimov, Donald Wandrei, John Campbell and E.E. Smith. The first works of L. Sprague DeCamp, Lester Del Rey, L. Ron Hubbard, Theodore Sturgeon, Robert A. Heinlein, and Eric Frank Russell also appeared in ASF. Issues in the 1940ΓÇÖs brought AsimovΓÇÖs Robot and Foundation stories, E. E. SmithΓÇÖs Lensman tales, and George O. SmithΓÇÖs Venus Equilateral series to life.
